Nebraska Custom Tackle was started in 1989 by Greg Shupe during his 21 years of operating a siding application business. He spent as much time as he could walleye fishing on weekends and started making spinner rigs to take on his fishing trips.

Most of the fish he caught were with his home-made lures. Other friends that went fishing wanted to have some made for them as well. Greg loved spending time designing new products and would try them out on fishing trips.

He enjoyed making these lures and rigs so the decision was made to try selling them at a few sports shows in the region. Sales were good and he had many repeat customers who have provided many good comments. So Greg decided to expand by creating an online store in order to reach other fishermen throughout the country.

Greg did all the painting, tying, and packaging of the spinner rigs. The Colorado Jig and Spoonbill Bottom Bouncer (featured in Walleye Insider magazine in 2004) were designed by Greg and proved to be very successful.

In November of 2013 Greg passed away after a three year battle with cancer. Although we did not know Greg personally by all accounts he was a good man who had a passion for fishing and tackle building. Through a mutual connection in June 2014 we had the pleasure of meeting Greg’s wife. At that time the website had been taken offline and Greg’s wife was looking for someone who might be interested in all of Greg’s tackle making supplies. After meeting with Greg’s wife we decided to move forward with purchasing Nebraska Custom Tackle. In July of 2014 we took ownership of the company.

We feel extremely proud to be able to selling walleye fishing lures under the Nebraska Custom Tackle name. Greg had many long time customers and was well respected in the community. With that constantly in our minds we take great pride in producing the highest quality products for the long time customers as well as the many new ones we hope to have in the years to come.
